Beady Bits

I try to use best quality beads (mainly Japanese) in my beadwork, along with a mixture of pearls, stones, dichroic glass and shells, and am always on the lookout for new and unusual materials to work with.

Please contact me by email (beadyeyes@blueyonder.co.uk) if you are interested in any item of jewellery that you see here or if you would like to commission a similar piece or one using a special stone or pearls of your choice. I would be happy to discuss any ideas you have for a particular item of beadwork.

Plume Agate Pendant

This necklace has a purple plume agate cabochon as its focal point. It is surrounded with plum and amethyst coloured seed and Delica beads, with a delicate picot edging. It is attached by a loop of peyote stitched beads to a substantial spiral rope necklace which has a white bead core with an outer spiral of dark amethyst transparent rainbow seed beads and larger silver-lined purple beads. It has a silver-plated Star toggle clasp.

Plume agates are believed to encourage creative visualisation and help the mind to focus itself.

I had originally planned to add some fringing to this pendant, but decided that it was complete without it.

Length 18”/45cm.

Blue Ice Crystal Choker

This choker featured as one of my designs in “Popular Crafts” magazine (July 2004). The choker itself is made in right angle weave stitch, worked with silver-lined pale blue seed beads and ice blue AB fire-polished crystals. The choker is finished with swags of ice blue beads and dagger drops. Loop and crystal bead fastener.

Length 14.5”/37cm.

Turquoise Dolphin Agate Pendant

A turquoise-dyed agate slice surrounded by a mixture of white, silver and a range of turquoise coloured seed beads, hung by a loop from a double strap spiral rope necklace, with a silver-plated “mermaid” fastener. A soapstone Dolphin decorates the front of the agate slice amidst a mass of branch fringing. The pendant is detachable so that the necklace can be worn with or without the agate attached.

Agates are powerful healers and protectors. The use of the turquoise beads (representing water - the life force) and the dolphin reinforces this and the silver beads (particularly associated with the moon and meditation) bring balance and ward off negative thoughts. Agates are particularly associated with the astrological signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Gemini.

Length 18.5”/47cm.

I have enclosed a Brecciated Jasper donut within loops of beads, which hangs from a double strap of spiral rope. Little teardrop beads are combined with seed beads to form the spirals, in dark greens, maroons and sparkling champagne.

Approx Length: 18”/45 cm.

This amulet came about whilst I was experimenting with adding netting over a brick stitched body, which is done in three-bead brick stitch. The strap is a daisy chain and a few extra dangles with bugles and teardrops have been added to one end of the strap. The bottom fringe also ends with teardrop beads.
