I attended the Beadworkers’ Guild’s regional festival at the Redworth Hall Hotel in Co Durham. This was a very enjoyable experience - the theme for the Saturday’s beading day was “Inspiration from India”, with a wonderful display of beadwork provided by one of the Guild members, Elizabeth Andrews. These were to be used as inspiration for working our own samples and creating our own designs. Techniques used were netting, right angle weave, chevron chain and peyote. It was also an opportunity to meet up with other beaders and get to know them all better - the place was a-buzz with chat, interrupted on a regular basis by Sylvia Fairhurst (Chairman) ringing a bell whenever an announcement had to be made ! In the evening the AGM was held and winners of the Challenge (Fireworks) announced (these entries had been on display throughout the day with the opportunity for members to vote for their favourite piece). The Challenge theme for 2007 was announced - Architectural Aspects (that’ll certainly be a challenge!) - and the theme for the display boards is to be “Think Pink”. |
